Landing Zone Safety
Selecting a proper Landing Zone (LZ) or securing an existing heliport is critical to ensuring the safety of both the aircraft and providers setting up the LZ. The guides below will help fire departments and hospital security personnel select and secure appropriate Landing Zones.
Landing Zone is an unprepared site at or near the scene of an accident or similar medical emergency on which a helicopter may land to pick up a patient in order to provide emergency medical transport.
Heliport is an area of land, or a structure intended to be used for the landing and takeoff of helicopters. A hospital heliport is limited to serving helicopters engaged in air ambulance, or other hospital related functions.
